Natural Shades has been actively working in the rural regions of Uttarakhand through regular field visits and community engagement initiatives. The team has explored areas such as Jaunsar Bawar, Nanbaigh, Pantwari, Nag Tibba, Chakrata, Devalsari, and Mussoorie, where they participate in local social programs and winter carnivals to better understand and support community life. The primary objective of these efforts is to highlight the challenges faced by rural populations, including limited resources, lack of sustainable income opportunities, and the rapid migration of the younger generation to urban plains in search of employment. This migration is leading to a steady decline in traditional culture and social practices. Additionally, the region is witnessing increasing external exploitation, where outsiders acquire land for commercial development, often reducing local residents to low-paying support roles. Such changes are not only disrupting the socio-economic fabric of these communities but are also impacting the environment due to rising tourism and infrastructure expansion. Through its ongoing activities, Natural Shades aims to raise awareness, preserve cultural heritage, and advocate for balanced development to ensure that the natural beauty and traditional identity of Uttarakhand are protected for future generations.
